Manchester City have confirmed the signing of centre-back Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

Guehi came close to a move to Liverpool on deadline day last September and while the Reds were credited with an interest in the England international, it is City who have won the race to land the 25-year-old.

City accelerated their interest in Guehi following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol in their 1-1 draw with Chelsea earlier this month.

City announce Guehi capture

“Manchester City are delighted to confirm the signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace on a five-and-a-half-year deal,” a statement read on City’s official website.

“The 25-year-old England international has put pen to paper on a contract that will take him through to the summer of 2031.

“He becomes the club’s second signing of the January transfer window following on from the capture of winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth earlier this month.

“A hugely gifted defender, over the past few years Guehi has established himself as one of the most talented and accomplished young centre-backs operating in the Premier League.

“Guehi arrives at the Etihad armed with extensive top-flight experience after spending the past four-and-a-half seasons at Selhurst Park.

“All told, he has clocked up 188 appearances for Palace across all competitions, scoring 11goals as well as supplying eight assists during his time in south London.

“He also won 26 international caps to date with England where he has become an integral part of the Three Lions’ squad.”

Guehi 'proud' to have signed for City

On his move to Manchester, Guehi said: “I am really happy and incredibly proud to be a Manchester City player

“This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I have put into my career. I am now at the best club in England and part of an unbelievable squad of players. It feels good to be able to say that.

“I want to grow as a player and a person, and I know at this club that’s going to happen.

“I love football – it has given me so much for so long – and to be able to continue my development at Manchester City is a really special moment for me and my family.

“I absolutely cannot wait to get started now. I want to meet my teammates, train hard, understand what the manager expects of me and then show the City fans what I can do.”

Guehi is expected to make his Premier League debut for City when Pep Guardiola’s side face Wolves this weekend.
