Manchester City have made direct contact in attempts to sign Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, with Fabrizio Romano revealing the role Tottenham could play.
There have been reports of late suggesting new City - and former Blues - boss Enzo Maresca would like to reunite with Neto. However, until now, that interest has not been firmed up.
But per Romano, City have made direct contact with Neto's camp over a transfer. The insider states the Portuguese is a target for if current City winger Savinho goes to Tottenham.
Should that move not happen, Spurs themselves are interested in Neto.
Romano also suggests the deal depends on Chelsea's valuation of their winger, who last season scored 10 goals and assisted 10 more.
There has not yet been contact with the Blues over the deal, though, only with Neto's representatives.

In a further update on YouTube, Romano explained: "Why Man City are looking for a winger. Because there is a possibility of Savio leaving the club, so Pedro Neto is considered as an ideal opportunity.
"Is a player they really like, they really appreciate. This also depends on Chelsea valuation. Pedro Neto is not on the list of exits at Chelsea, so is a player who is still part of the project with Xabi Alonso.
"So it depends, if Chelsea receive a good, important proposal, this story could develop. Otherwise, he's not a player who has to leave the club.
"But for sure the situation of Pedro Neto is something that is underway right now. Contacts ongoing with the agent, the player could be eventually open to the move, and it again it comes down to the negotiation financially, in terms of value of the player."
Neto's future is tied to that of Savinho, too, with the winger having been on Tottenham's radar for months, and he's open to a move to north London.
But there has been slow progress on that, and prior to last weekend (August 1 and 2) it was reported Spurs had given City an ultimatum - given them a direct decision on selling Savinho or they'd move onto other targets.
It's not completely clear whether that has happened, but Neto is one of the other targets they are looking at.
