Make no mistake, Kevin Danso is screwing over Tottenham

As Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi himself confirmed and many reporters have revealed, Kevin Danso wants to leave N17. The Austrian center back is buried on the depth chart as the fourth choice defender, and while he is technically the main right sided center back backup to Jan Paul van Hecke and did even play and score in the League Cup against Charlton Athletic, opportunities to start will be very limited for him at Spurs this season.

That's because Tottenham replaced captain Cristian Romero with not only Van Hecke but also Marcos Senesi, a free agent from Bournemouth who was so good last season as a late blooming center back that he made a few Premier League Teams of the Season.

Now Danso, despite being ahead of mystery man Kota Takai, wants out, and while you can understand why a quality footballer who was once one of Ligue 1's best overall players at Lens would want to leave instead of being the fourth center back on a team that isn't even in any sort of European football this season after finishing 17th again in 2025/26, the decision is nonetheless a huge blow to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham fans have every right to be miffed

Because Kevin Danso could have easily made his intentions known to the club earlier in the transfer window when Spurs could have had more options to replace him as center back or even keep Luka Vuskovic, who would have likely had more minutes. But even if that Vuskovic ship sailed, Spurs could have had an easier time getting other options - and more time to sell Danso for a better fee.

Now, Danso is putting them in a huge bind already with Tottenham two games into the Premier League season and already doing terribly, outscored by a combined 5-0 by Brentford and Newcastle United thus far.

Danso has put Tottenham in a terrible spot with the timing of all of this, and the worst part is that he could join another Premier League team and hurt Spurs even more. Instead of requesting to go back to France earlier in the window, Danso seems ticketed to join Sunderland, who are extremely interested in signing the big center back from Spurs this summer transfer window. And Sunderland are a dangerous team with great defense who finished ahead of Tottenham in the Premier League table last season. Danso has definitely done Spurs no favors, and fans have every right to be annoyed here.
