Maitland-Niles Rescues Everton as United’s Defensive Woes Return

Manchester United were denied victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a stunning 96th-minute equaliser on his Everton debut to snatch a 2-2 draw from the jaws of defeat.

Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko had both put United ahead during a pulsating Premier League encounter on Sunday, only for the Toffees to peg them back twice, with deadline-day signing Maitland-Niles having the final say deep into stoppage time.

Everton, by contrast, went into the game with a threadbare forward line reduced essentially to Thierno Barry after a transfer window widely criticised as chaotic. Barry accumulated more expected goals than anyone else on the pitch but failed to register a single shot on target, underlining just how costly United’s late defensive lapse proved.
