Leny Yoro has earned widespread praise for his stalwart display on his France debut last night.

Although Michael Olise will understandably dominate the headlines this morning after coming off the bench to score twice and register an assist, the Manchester United starlet’s showing won’t be slipping under the radar.

How Leny Yoro fared vs Belgium

Yoro played the full 90 minutes of France’s final fixture of the international break: a Nations League clash with Belgium.

Senne Lammens was benched for the tie, while Youri Tielemans was suspended, so he’ll be fully rested for United’s return to action this weekend.

Throughout the five-goal encounter, which saw the 2018 world champions complete a remarkable second-half turnaround to win 4-1, Yoro recorded the most touches of any player on the pitch (94).

The 20-year-old also made the most defensive contributions, making six clearances and four tackles, as well as winning five aerial duels and four ground duels, securing himself a 100 per cent duel success rate.

Of the 11 starters, Yoro earned the highest rating (8.2).

The reaction to Yoro’s debut

Rio Ferdinand reacted to the youngster’s statistics on Twitter/X, saying: “Love to see it!”

Zinedine Zidane, who succeeded Didier Deschamps as head coach after the World Cup this summer, said of Yoro post-match: “He had a great game today. I am very happy for him. He did his role very well.”

Meanwhile, the centre-half spoke to reporters after his maiden appearance for Les Bleus.

“I don’t think I could have asked for anything better. A home match against Belgium, with my family there. It was a really great game, too. Of course, we would have hoped for a clean sheet, but we got the win, so we’re not going to complain. It was amazing.”

Yoro has endured a ‘mixed’ start for United since 2026/2027 got underway, but he’ll undoubtedly be using Monday’s outing as fuel to replicate such stellar displays in a red shirt in the coming months.
