Liverpool reportedly could revive their interest in Lamine Camara in 2027 after his proposed transfer to Chelsea this summer fell through.

However, Anfield insider James Pearce reports for The Athletic that a prospective move is by no means guaranteed.

The Senegalese international was, nonetheless, considered the most suitable option to replace Alexis Mac Allister had the Argentine international been moved on in the window.

Alexis Mac Allister could yet be sold in 2027

Our Argentine international finds himself in a most strange position. Following a dreadful 2025/26 campaign, mitigated to a large extent by Arne Slot’s inability to fix Liverpool’s midfield struggles, his value plummeted ahead of the summer transfer window.

One impressive World Cup campaign later alongside Enzo Fernandez and Lionel Messi in the middle of the park, however, quickly revitalised Mac Allister’s stock.

Yet, no offers were forthcoming for a footballer who had once been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid in the summer.

Now, there’s an opportunity for the 27-year-old to kick on this term under a new head coach, Andoni Iraola. However, while there are no guarantees that interest in Camara could be revitalised in 2027, there are equally no guarantees that our No.10 will still be at the club beyond 2026/27.

Certainly, with a contract due to expire in the summer of 2028, next summer represents our final opportunity to extract any kind of value from Alexis Mac Allister – assuming he isn’t offered a contract renewal. And Liverpool will surely be under some amount of pressure not to allow another viable asset to fall prey to the seemingly irresistible lure of a free transfer exit.

Liverpool could then replace the Argentine with Lamine Camara

To be clear, we’re in no rush to move our Premier League-winning midfielder on.

However, we’d hasten to add that there’s a clear lack of midfielders at Liverpool Football Club who naturally lean toward the defensive side of the game.

And if we’re looking to operate a system of one stays and one goes in the midfield pivot, we’re not sure that Mac Allister is the man to put total faith in as the last line of defence before the backline.

We hope we’ll be proven disastrously wrong on that front. But our expectation is that Liverpool will be keeping an eye on a profile like Lamine Camara come the next summer transfer window.

We can’t see the club moving on either of Ryan Gravenberch or Dominik Szoboszlai – both of whom have signed long-term contracts – so the natural conclusion we’re left with is that Alexis Mac Allister will be sacrificed. And that’s an exit which more or less guarantees Camara’s arrival in 2027.
