Liverpool will go toe-to-toe with Euro giants for transfer of 'special' midfielder

Liverpool have already been linked with an awful lot of players ahead of the January transfer window.

That is, despite them already spending over £150 million during the summer.

Despite this massive amount of spending, there are still a couple of areas that could do with an upgrade or two before the Reds are seen as genuine title contenders.

As much as Alexis Mac Allister is in impressive form, it's clear that new players need to be brought in to help bolster the middle of Liverpool's team.

Without this, some serious questions will need to be asked as, both Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have both proven that neither of them can play in a double pivot, especially not together.

So, the fact that the rumour mill is turning and is linking Liverpool with a new midfielder is certainly exciting.

Liverpool and Juventus both want to sign Tyler Morton

Tyler Morton's sale is probably one of the main moves that Liverpool regret.

The midfielder managed to make his way through the Reds' ranks and even featured in their first-team once or twice.

However, since Arne Slot had something against using youngsters in his starting XI, it felt like there was no pathway for the Englishman into their starting XI.

This resulted in him being sold to Lyon and now, the rest is history.

He quickly became one of the Ligue 1 outfit's most important players and now, according to TuttoJuve, both Juventus and Liverpool want to sign him.

"Juventus is still eyeing midfield, and among the players they're pursuing is Tyler Morton, an English midfielder from Olympique Lyonnais," they wrote.

"Born in 2002, Morton is continuing his development in France, and his performances have even convinced Liverpool to consider a sensational return.

"The Reds sold him to Lyon for around €18 million, but now they may be forced to spend significantly more to bring him back to Anfield.

"Juventus could also be interested in the player. He joins the long list being evaluated by Carnevali and Massara to increase the quality and options available to Luciano Spalletti."

Liverpool will have to move quickly if they want to sign Tyler Morton in the future

Since Morton is still only 23 years old, he still has an awful lot of his career ahead of him.

As mentioned, the "special" midfielder was easily one of Lyon's best players last term and, without him, they'd have certainly done much worse than they did.

At the time, the €18 million fee seemed like too good of a deal for Liverpool to turn down but, in reality, it could've saved Liverpool over £100 million as, if they don't manage to re-sign him, they could be forced to spend an obscene amount on someone such as Adam Wharton.

Obviously, Morton will probably have some reservations about returning to L4 as, when he thought he was on the path to their first-team, he was kicked out of the door and forgotten about.

But, if Liverpool want to try and convince him to join them, they're going to have to act fast as, with clubs such as Juventus already showing an interest, it won't be long before other teams also throw their hats into the ring.
