Liverpool told they'd only need to pay €20m for 'exceptional' star

Liverpool still have a lot of changes that they need to make to their team this summer.

However, with there only being a few weeks left of the window, it's unclear how many more deals Liverpool will be able to get over the line.

Their most recent signing was Ronald Araujo and, while he's a welcome addition, the fact that the Reds still haven't replaced Mohamed Salah is a massive worry.

The Egyptian King has been one of Liverpool's main attackers since 2017 and, it's certainly going to be hard for Liverpool to adjust their playing style without having him upfront.

But, another area that they also need to upgrade is their defence. Many of their current crop of players are rather injury prone which is why two defenders have already been brought in.

Liverpool will be wanting to compete for silverware once again this season but, in order for them to do that, even more players need to be brought in which is why the latest player they have been offered makes a lot of sense for them to sign.

Liverpool would only have to spend between €15 and €20 million to sign Hector Fort

The fact that Araujo can play as a centre-back or a right-back is one of the main things that made him a smart signing for Liverpool.

Both positions were problem areas for Liverpool last term and, with Ibrahima Konate now playing for Real Madrid, they had an even bigger issue.

However, the Uruguayan came in to save the day but, if he's used in one of those roles by Andoni Iraola, he obviously can't be used in the other.

So, realistically, since Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez are so unreliable, Liverpool are still a defender short.

However, as per a fresh update from Mundo Deportivo, that could be about to change as Barcelona now want to get rid of Hector Fort.

Liverpool's interest in the right-back has been recently documented and, although no fee was mentioned for the 20-year-old full-back, the Spanish outlet have now revealed how much Barcelona want for his sale.

"Héctor Fort (20 years old) has already accepted that his future lies in leaving FC Barcelona during this summer transfer window," they wrote.

"The Barça right-back has acknowledged that he is not part of Hansi Flick 's priority plans , and now the club and his agents are working to find the best way to finalize a deal.

"Neither the Catalan club nor the player himself considers a loan move their first option. The intention is for Fort to leave the club permanently, although Barça wants to protect itself for the future.

"Depending on which team ultimately signs him, Barça could retain a significant percentage of the player's rights or, alternatively, include a buy-back option.

"Barcelona have valued the player at between 15 and 20 million euros. At the moment, there are no concrete offers on the table, although several clubs have expressed interest. La Liga has been particularly attentive to Fort 's situation , but the requirement of a transfer fee limits the possibilities for Spanish teams."

Hector Fort would be a smart signing for Liverpool

At the moment, Liverpool have too many non-homegrown players to even consider signing another one.

The Reds are currently at their maximum number of allowed players and, while there are some such as Wataru Endo and Calvin Ramsay who can be moved on, homegrown players should really be at the top of their priority list.

However, since Fort is still only 20 years old, he wouldn't have to be registered for the Premier League this season which could make things a little easier.

Last term, he played 14 games across all competitions for La Liga side, Elche, and during those games he contributed to five goals across all competitions.

Despite these performances, Barcelona still don't see a future for him at the club with others seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order.

A fee worth €15 million - €20 million is nothing in this day and age so, even if he flopped, the Reds would probably still make most of their money back.

Obviously, there are going to be other teams interested in signing the "exceptional" defender but, on the face of things, the youngster looks like an ideal addition for Liverpool.
