Liverpool star is broken, unsure what future holds

Liverpool have a problem with one star. He looks broken - and it's unclear if he can be fixed.

There are so many questions about this Liverpool squad right now. That was always going to be the case with a new head coach in Andoni Iraola and especially after a season where virtually everyone was below par.

But it's been made even more unclear by the sluggishness in the transfer window. Now, the World Cup played a significant role in that lack of speed, while failing to land the top target in Yan Diomande changed everything.

The club has had to pivot to Bradley Barcola but it's not entirely clear if he's actually available. Without knowing, Liverpool can't really sell or move anyone on and that's left some in limbo.

One of those is Harvey Elliott. We're not sure he's got a clear place at the club right now and won't until we know who's arriving to play on the wing.

But what exactly is Elliott right now? It's uncertain, to say the least, whether he's still the player who thrived in Jurgen Klopp's final six months in charge. The invention hasn't been there this summer, nor the movement or the usual involvement.

Now, that's not a shock. Elliott lost a year of his career last term, thanks to mismanagement from everyone above him, including Liverpool. It understandably sets him back and leaves him needing to build everything back up.

How easy is that to do, though? And are Liverpool able to give him the time to fix everything? That's simply not known to anyone, not when we don't even know what his competition for places is like.

What is clear is that Elliott needs competitive minutes to find his rhythm once again. Liverpool need to weigh up whether they're able to give him that because if not, they simply need to find him a new club - that's certainly owed to the player after everything last season.

We'd love to see Elliott work his way back and show off the form he had in 2024 - when Klopp labelled him the 'best player' at the club for a period. That kind of form undoubtedly has a place at the club this season.

We're just not sure if that's possible. If Liverpool can afford him the minutes, brilliant. If not, it's time to find a solution - to the benefit of everyone.
