Liverpool send scouts to watch 'incredible' star in action
Liverpool still have a lot of work to do to their squad this season.
Even though Andoni Iraola welcomed four new faces through the Anfield doors, there are still many areas among their ranks that could do with upgrading.
Admittedly, Friday's 2-0 win against Ipswich was probably the Reds' best performance of the season but, if that level of performance can't be replicated every week, there's no point for them to have played as well as they did.
However, even though Friday proved that the Reds are heading in the right direction, it was still more than clear that changes still needed to be made.
Obviously, the transfer window is shut at the moment so unless they want to bring in a free agent or two, they're stuck with this until January.
But, until the winter window comes around, Liverpool need to plan for what their future has in store and, that seems to be exactly what they're doing.
Liverpool have sent their scouts to watch Lamine Camara in action
One of the main areas of Liverpool's squad that their fans wanted to be improved was their midfield.
Last season, only Dominik Szoboszlai performed to the standards expected of him with others such as Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister both massively underperforming.
So, after the 2025-26 season where the Reds finished fifth in the Premier League, another massive rebuild of Liverpool's squad was expected.
And, in some ways, that did happen but, there's still a lot of changes that need to be made before the Anfield outfit can be classed as one of the best clubs in the world.
So, the fact that the Reds are now sending their scouts to eye some new talent for them is very encouraging.
That is, if a report from TEAMtalk is to be believed.
"A number of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, were present in Paris on Friday evening to watch Lamine Camara play a significant role in Monaco’s impressive victory over Paris Saint-Germain, TEAMtalk understands," they wrote.
"The 22-year-old had been on course to join Chelsea on Tuesday, with the Blues having identified him as their leading option to strengthen their midfield after Enzo Fernandez completed a move to Manchester City earlier in the day.
"However, despite an agreement being reached, Monaco dramatically pulled the plug on the deal late in the window, leaving Camara and Chelsea stunned and the player facing the prospect of remaining in the Principality despite being ready to move to Stamford Bridge.
"Chelsea remain keen on Camara despite the collapse, but TEAMtalk understands the midfielder and his representatives are continuing to work on his future, with the expectation that he is likely to leave Monaco in 2027.
"The Senegal international is widely considered one of Europe’s most high-profile young midfielders and his performances at Monaco have ensured the interest in him extends well beyond Chelsea.
"We can confirm that Liverpool remain long-term admirers of Camara and were also present at the Parc des Princes on Friday to watch him in action."
Lamine Camara has to be Liverpool's main transfer target in January
To be fair to Liverpool's midfield, so far this season, they've done a decent job.
Obviously, the Reds' first game that saw Szoboszlai and Gravenberch play in a double pivot against Newcastle proved that there's still a lot of work to be done but, since then, it feels like Iraola has been trying his best to find the perfect balance for the middle of the park.
At times, that has worked out but, it's clear that change is still needed.
And, of all the midfielders that Liverpool have been linked with, 22-year-old Camara feels like the best option.
His teammates have called him an "incredible" player in the past and, with his recent performances taken into account, he is certainly that.
He's one of the best tacklers in Ligue 1 and, since that is something that Liverpool are massively lacking, it's clear why he'd be a perfect fit for Iraola.
Here's hoping that Liverpool see sense and make Camara their top priority in the January transfer window.
