Liverpool push for Bradley Barcola agreement ‘this week’ as Romano confirms price drop
Liverpool will make a new push for Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola ‘this week’, according to Merseyside reporter Lewis Steele, while Fabrizio Romano has given the Reds a boost over the Frenchman’s price tag.
Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Barcola and entered talks with PSG to try and wrap up a deal for the exciting 23-year-old winger. Barcola is keen to leave PSG for Liverpool as he wants more game time to aid his development.
So far, Liverpool have offered €100m (£86m) and €115m (£98m) for Barcola, though both bids have been rejected by PSG.
The Champions League holders started negotiations by demanding an eye-watering €170m (£145m) for Barcola.
In addition to their pursuit of Barcola, Liverpool are chasing Yankuba Minteh of Brighton to transform their options out wide.
Andoni Iraola’s side have had proposals for Minteh worth £50m and £60m snubbed by Brighton, who are holding out for £70m.
The Daily Mail’s Merseyside correspondent Steele has provided an update on Liverpool’s signing plans.
‘Liverpool remain hopeful of signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola this week and are weighing up whether to make a third bid for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh,’ Steele wrote.
‘Those will be crucial additions, given the wide options are limited at present.
‘But signing a deep-lying midfielder is just as important. They could have the best front three in the world yet they will win no trophies if they are so vulnerable and exposed to the counter-attack like they were here [vs Newcastle].’
After confirming that there are ‘daily conversations’ between Liverpool and PSG, Romano confirmed on YouTube that the Reds have succeeded in driving down Barcola’s €170m/£145m valuation.
“I know that in terms of reporting this story is not on a daily basis like I don’t know £80m offered, £90m requested, £100m offered, £110m requested is not like this because it’s a direct club-to-club conversation,” he said.
“PSG and Liverpool share a very good relationship, and they are talking club to club.
Romano confirms Liverpool ‘proposals’ for Barcola
“I can guarantee to you that Liverpool already sent proposals for Barcola and it’s been all verbal between the two clubs, though PSG always ask for more.
“I always told you here it’s not going to be €170m; it’s going to be less than this, so the conversation is ongoing to try to find the best structure of the deal for all parties involved.
“But the fact that Barcola is not travelling [with the PSG squad to Rennes on Sunday], Luis Enrique is clearly saying if someone is here and he’s not happy it’s better to go, and the Paris Saint-Germain chairman is saying we will see what’s going to happen.”
Barcola is poised to replace Cody Gakpo at Anfield, as Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a new bid for the Dutchman.
Meanwhile, Liverpool could announce the capture of a third new player before deadline day.
