Liverpool are interested in signing another star from Newcastle, among other clubs, reports Caught Offside.

Liverpool and Newcastle have done business with each other and been interested in some of the same players in the last few transfer windows. The Reds are again looking to St James' Park for a new talent.

It's reported they're keeping an eye on Magpies' centre-back Malick Thiaw as a potential defensive reinforcement in future transfer windows.

No discussions have taken place for the German centre-back, but both Liverpool and United have been monitoring his performances.

Thiaw is felt to have had a good start to the Premier League season, so the big hitters have likely enjoyed what they've seen so far.

With questions over the longevity of Virgil van Dijk, who could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, Andoni Iraola will be forced to look into finding a long-term replacement.

Liverpool have Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet in the squad after transfers in the past year, and both are right-footers, as is Thiaw, so how the dynamic of the defence would work remains to be seen.

Liverpool would have to pay Newcastle another large fee for Malick Thiaw

The report states that are any side to prise Thiaw away from St James' Park, Newcastle will ask for £65-70million.

They paid an initial £30million when they signed him from AC Milan in 2025.

Liverpool are no strangers to paying a large sum to Newcastle, having made Alexander Isak the most expensive transfer in British history when they paid £125million for him in the same summer.

The Swedish striker had an out of sorts first season, plagued by injuries, in which he scored just three Premier League goals.

Isak has already matched that tally in three games this season, and is on course for a great campaign.

Liverpool and Newcastle were also both in pursuit of Spanish winger Victor Munoz in the summer of 2026.

The Magpies felt they were closing in on his transfer, and were looking to get it done quickly when their league rivals burst onto the scene and agreed his £34.5million transfer with Osasuna.

The wide man scored a stunning first goal for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest in late August, after he had assisted against the side he could have ended up at, Newcastle, in the opening fixture of the season.
