Liverpool learn chances of Yankuba Minteh deal as Brighton agree winger signing
Brighton have reached an agreement with Millwall to sign right winger Femi Azeez, and a trusted source has revealed whether Liverpool will be able to land Yankuba Minteh.
Liverpool have signed two wingers so far this summer, Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola. They were hoping to follow up on the stunning £123million capture of Barcola by bringing in a new right winger before the transfer deadline.
Liverpool held talks with PSG for Barcola’s former team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye, but the Senegal international has gone on to join Aston Villa for £47m.
Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr have instead emerged as targets for Liverpool on the right flank.
We revealed on Tuesday morning that Palace are adamant Sarr will not be sold, having rejected a £40m approach from Liverpool for the 28-year-old.
Brighton are poised to sign Azeez, a player who could be viewed as a replacement for Minteh.
‘Brighton have agreed a deal with Millwall for winger Femi Azeez,’ Sky Sports report.
‘Millwall have granted the player permission to have a medical and finalise the move.
‘The total package agreed is understood to be worth up to £15m.
‘Millwall had previously rejected a fresh bid for Azeez, but were braced for another.
‘Brighton’s previous bid of £10m was rejected over the weekend as it was some way short of Millwall’s valuation.’
Liverpool set to miss out on Yankuba Minteh
Even with the impending signing of Azeez, Minteh is definitely staying at Brighton beyond the transfer deadline, Sky Sports add.
That is despite Liverpool having been tipped to ‘overpay’ with a late deal for Minteh.
Liverpool have had bids for the Gambian worth £50m and £60m rejected by Brighton. They were considering an improved offer worth £65-70m but walked away from negotiations after being quoted £80m by Brighton.
While Minteh is an exciting talent with Premier League experience, it would have been a risky signing anyway as he will be out for several more weeks due to a muscle injury.
Liverpool have instead been tipped to open talks for Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling.
Meanwhile, the Reds have been slammed for a baffling decision over a rumoured midfield target.
