Liverpool issue injury update on Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Serbia.

The Liverpool forward was forced off during the first half and will play no further part in the Dutch side’s remaining two fixtures of the international break.

Gakpo will now return to Merseyside to undergo further assessment by Liverpool’s medical staff at the AXA Training Centre.

The injury will be a concern for the Reds ahead of the return of Premier League action, with Manchester City due to visit Anfield next Sunday, October 11.

Liverpool will now wait to discover the extent of the problem and whether Gakpo will be available for the clash with City.

Alexander Isak has also returned to Liverpool after suffering a “minor” injury while with Sweden.
