Liverpool face a fight on their hands to retain Dominik Szoboszlai’s services, according to Spanish publication AS.

The Hungarian has been a revelation for the Reds since his move to Anfield from RB Leipzig in 2023.

The addition of Florian Wirtz may have seen Szoboszlai used sparingly but the 25-year-old has started all 11 league matches so far this season.

Head coach Arne Slot has even used Szoboszlai at right-back on occasion this season and his form in a Liverpool shirt hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Heavyweights monitoring midfielder's contract

Reports suggest that Szoboszlai is on €130,000 per week, which is way below the figure of other Premier League midfielders, including Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva.

And European heavyweights Manchester City and Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing up a move for the Hungary international with the Reds concerned about his contract situation.

Szoboszlai still has two-and-a-half years left to run on his current Liverpool contract, so they are under no pressure to sell the midfielder or extend his deal.

However, they are conscious that Szoboszlai is underpaid compared to industry standards and may look to offer the former RB Leipzig man an extension as a reward for his good form.

Szoboszlai, though, was unable to help Liverpool to victory at City on Sunday as Slot’s side crashed to a 3-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium.

Goals from Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku saw City close the gap at the top of the table to four points heading into the November international break.

Real Madrid have previous with Liverpool stars

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are no stranger to pursuing Liverpool players having signed Trent Alexander-Arnold from the champions over the summer.

In addition, Los Blancos are considering a move for Ibrahima Konate at the end of the season.

The Frenchman’s current deal expires next summer and while Liverpool are keen to retain the centre-back’s services, Real Madrid are exploring a deal for Konate, who can pen a pre-contract with overseas sides in the New Year.

Real Madrid saw their lead at the top of La Liga cut to just three points at the weekend as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Rayo Vallecano.

Rivals Barcelona, meanwhile, claimed a 4-2 win at Celta Vigo to boost their hopes of defending their La Liga crown.
