Joe Gomez is set to return to action for Liverpool in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third-round clash with Tottenham at Anfield.

The defender has been sidelined since suffering a muscle injury during Liverpool’s pre-season fixture against Sunderland in late July.

Gomez returned to team training last week and head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed he is now in contention to feature against Spurs.

“He is training with the team,” Iraola said.

“I think he’s going to be available for tomorrow and now it’s a matter of deciding how much he can play and what is the best thing to do.”

Iraola also provided an update on Conor Bradley, who remains some way off a return from a long-term knee injury.

“I think he is not close to training with the team,” the Liverpool boss said. “He’s training alone but he has started touching the ball.

“Definitely I want him as quick as possible ready but it’s a long-term injury.”

Iraola added that Giovanni Leoni is currently further ahead in his own recovery.

“I think Leoni is a little bit ahead of him and still it’s going to take some time for Conor, yes.”
