Liverpool are reportedly still searching the market for a midfielder signing in the summer transfer window.

A reputable source on X (formerly Twitter) shared the update in question, with the Reds understood to be keen admirers of Monaco star Lamine Camara.

The Merseysiders are on the verge of completing a £120m package deal for Bradley Barcola from PSG.

Could Liverpool sign a midfielder this summer?

There’s an argument to be made that landing a new midfield option this summer is just as critical as reinforcing the forward line.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch formed part of the title-winning midfield of 2024/25, but the pair’s attacking instincts mean that Liverpool look exposed in the middle of the park – as was demonstrated in the 2-2 draw with Newcastle at the weekend.

So, we can understand why there might still be the possibility of the Reds bolstering the midfield this summer.

However, it remains to be seen whether we can find an appropriate solution here without leaving the forward line short.

Could Lamine Camara be a surprise addition this summer?

If Liverpool are indeed in the market for a midfielder with natural defensive instincts, they could do a lot worse than Lamine Camara.

What’s exciting about the 22-year-old, however, is that he’s equally proficient on the ball as he is against it.

It’s an option worth considering, at the very least. But with recent reporting indicating that Liverpool will complete a maximum of two further signings this summer, it’s perhaps best advised to leave Andoni Iraola with a complete array of forward options.

What is Camara’s asking price?

Monaco have already rejected a bid worth £35m from Crystal Palace, according to the BBC.

Reports elsewhere indicate that the Ligue 1 outfit values Camara at around the £42.8m-51.4m mark.
