Liverpool are considering using Harvey Elliott in an agreement to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, reports journalist Danny Gallagher.

The Reds are looking at a number of midfielders this summer. While replacing Mohamed Salah has been and remains the priority, midfield moves are also high on the agenda.

Palace man Wharton has been on the radar of multiple top clubs this summer, though most of the big six have signed other players in the position.

Liverpool, though, remain fans of the Englishman, and could ship out Elliott in order to sign him.

Gallagher reports the Reds are looking into the logistics of moving the midfielder to Palace as part of an agreement to sign Wharton.

New boss Andoni Iraola is said to be running the rule over whether it's necessary for an exit to occur at all.

However, if all parties agree on a partial swap deal involving Elliott and Wharton, it's believed a transfer could move quickly.

Reports elsewhere have suggested that Palace feel confident they are going to keep Wharton in their squad for the coming season.

The Reds were said to have been most keen, but it's been suggested that in recent weeks, their interest has begun to fade.

Per Pete O'Rourke, Iraola does not see Wharton as a priority and is instead looking at other targets.

What's not clear is if he's not a priority because a new right-winger remains such, and if one was signed, whether Wharton would again spring to the top of the radar.

It could be that Liverpool find Wharton's price tag too high, after reports previously suggested they would look to part with £70million for him.

With that said, the route to let Elliott go to Palace could help, as it would make the transfer cheaper and get a player off the books that the Reds evidently don't want.

With that said, Palace might not want him either - the midfielder went on loan to Aston Villa last season and played all of 277 minutes across competitions.

A player who has hardly played in the last year won't be very high on any club's radar this summer.
