Liverpool close in on defensive midfielder after scouting mission

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Matias Orozco from Deportivo Cali.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been linked with clubs like Brentford and Leeds United as well, but it seems that Liverpool could be the ones signing the talented youngster, according to reports via SportWitness.

Liverpool sent scouts to watch the player in action against Inter de Bogota on Sunday.

Matias Orozco could join Liverpool

Deportivo Cali manager Rafael Dudamel has also confirmed that the player is close to a move to a European club. However, details are yet to be finalised, and he has refused to name the club.

“Negotiations are advanced for Matías Orozco to go to European football. There are details still to be completed,” Dudamel said.

“That’s why he, together with his family, his agents, the board and coaching staff, agreed that he could play today. We knew there was a lot of risk, but he also really wanted to be part of the team.”

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can get the deal across the line.

Orozco is a tremendous talent with a bright future, and he could develop into an important player for Liverpool with the right guidance. The 18-year-old is a defensive midfielder, and Liverpool need someone in that role. Even though he might not be ready to make an impact in the first team just yet, they could groom him into a starter in the coming seasons.
