Atlético Madrid: By virtue of finishing fourth in La Liga last season, this is Atlético Madrid's 14th successive season in the Champions League, reaching last season's semi-finals. The Reds have won each of their last three meetings with los Colchoneros, including a 3-2 victory at Anfield during last season's league phase; Virgil van Dijk winning it with a stoppage time towering header. However, Diego Simeone's side did famously eliminate Jürgen Klopp's side in 2020 just before lockdown; watch out for Marcos Llorente.
Inter Milan: The Nerazzurri are reigning Serie A champions, claiming their third Scudetti in six seasons. Liverpool also faced Inter Milan in last year's league phase, winning 1-0 at San Siro, courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai's stoppage time spot-kick. The Reds have won four of their last five against Inter and, on this occasion, will be reunited with Curtis Jones.
FC Porto: After two seasons of Champions League exile, Porto are back as Primeira Liga champions. The Reds have never lost any of their previous ten encounters with the Dragões, winning seven of them. The last three occasions Liverpool have reached a Champions League Final, their run has featured meetings with Porto, which has to be a good omen.
Club Brugge: Having won five of the last seven Belgian titles, Club Brugge have become Champions League regulars. This clash will be the first time the Black-Blues have met the Reds not in a final. They first clashed in the 1976 UEFA Cup Final, with Liverpool winning 4-3 on aggregate; the late Kevin Keegan scoring in both legs. Two years later, they met again, this time in the European Cup Final at Wembley, with Bob Paisley's side prevailing again; Sir Kenny Dalglish's the only scorer.
Villarreal: Similarly, Liverpool and Villarreal have only ever met in semi-finals. Klopp's team sunk the Yellow Submarine in the last four en route to to the 2016 Europa League and 2022 Champions League Finals. Last season's third place finish in La Liga means that el Submarino Amarillo cannot be underestimated.
Fenerbahçe: Liverpool have previously played 15 matches against Turkish clubs, these against Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor, but never before have the Reds met Fenerbahçe. This is partially due to the fact that the Yellow Canaries have not appeared in the Champions League since 2008, dumped out in qualifying no fewer than nine times since. However, they are back, after İsmail Kartal's team overcame Górnik Zabrze, Sturm Graz and Olympique Lyonnais in qualifiers this summer. A red-hot atmosphere awaits at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Lens: This will also be a first; Liverpool have never previously met Lens. Les Sang et Or are making just their fourth appearance in the Champions League group stages, after 1998, 2002 and 2023, but cannot be underestimated. Lens finished second in Ligue 1 last season, as well as winning both the Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions, beating PSG to claim the latter earlier this month.
LASK: 2026 has already been an historic year for LASK. Die Schwarz-Weißen won the Austrian Bundesliga title for the first time since 1965, and this will be their Champions League debut. In In the play-off round, despite being 4-0 down half an hour into the second leg, Dietmar Kühbauer's team produced an historic comeback to beat Celtic 5-4 after extra time. Despite their lack of expirence, Liverpool have faced LASK in recent times. Three years ago, Klopp's team beat them 3-1 at Raiffeisen Arena and 4-0 at Anfield in the Europa League.
