Liverpool and Arsenal ready shock moves for Real Madrid defender

It is unlikely that Real Madrid sign anyone in January, given their last mid-season signing came in 2019. However, it cannot be ruled out that one or two leave, especially given the wave of speculation that has affected several players in recent weeks.

There have been numerous players that have played less than expected so far this season. Endrick has barely featured despite a very impressive loan spell at Lyon last season, while at right-back, summer signing Denzel Dumfries has been preferred to Trent Alexander-Arnold, which has surprised many Real Madrid supporters.

Trent, who is currently on international duty with England, had a tough first season at Real Madrid, but now that he is more used to life in the Spanish capital, many hoped that he would take a step forward, although it has not been the case – and this has seemingly created an opportunity for a couple of Premier League clubs.

According to TEAMtalk (via CaughtOffside), Liverpool want to re-sign Trent in January, while Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the defender with a view to making a move when the transfer window re-opens.

Trent has no plans to leave Real Madrid at this stage

Trent’s relationship with the Liverpool fans soured in the aftermath of his move to Real Madrid in 2025, but given the club’s struggles at right-back over the last 12 months, he would surely be welcomed back. However, both they and Arsenal will be disappointed, with the report noting that the 27-year-old has no plans to leave Real Madrid, despite his recent lack of playing time.

Trent is focused on forcing his way into Jose Mourinho’s regular starting line-up, and with a busy schedule after the international break, he should have many chances to start often. However, if he continues to play second-fiddle to Dumfries, only then could an exit become a possibility.
