Joao Pedro targets Chelsea trophies after prolific first season
Joao Pedro has outlined his ambitions for the season ahead, stressing that individual form must be matched by collective success at Chelsea.
Joao Pedro’s Chelsea mindset
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website during the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, Joao Pedro reflected on a first year at Stamford Bridge that brought both personal recognition and silverware. He scored 20 goals during the 2025/26 campaign, was voted Player of the Season by Blues supporters and became a world champion shortly after joining the club.
While he described the campaign as special, Joao Pedro made clear that the group had not achieved everything it wanted. He said he plans to continue giving his best in the hope that his own form and Chelsea’s wider targets can align this season.
The forward also discussed how quickly he settled at Chelsea. He said he felt at home immediately and is now hoping the club can add more titles in the future.
Joao Pedro has returned for pre-season in sharp form, scoring seven goals in five matches. He has also begun working with new head coach Xabi Alonso, whom he described as open and focused on helping everyone at the club. The Brazilian is looking forward to helping Alonso and Chelsea pursue their targets this season.
What Joao Pedro wants to achieve this season
Joao Pedro explained that he has always seen himself primarily as a centre-forward, while his technique allows him to drop deeper or move wide when required. His priority is to play and help the team.
His instinct for finding the right areas remains central to his game. Joao Pedro said staying only in the box can reduce his opportunities, while moving too far from goal can leave him unable to finish chances. He relies on that feeling for positioning as he looks to score.
That adaptability was evident during his first Chelsea season. His goals included a long-range strike at Napoli, a close-range header against West Ham United and an overhead kick against Nottingham Forest that supporters named Chelsea’s Goal of the Season.
Joao Pedro added that playing in different positions when he was younger helped him a lot. With Chelsea possessing top players in midfield, he said his focus is on scoring goals.
What happens next
Joao Pedro’s pre-season return has provided a strong platform for the campaign ahead, with seven goals in five matches. His stated aim is for those individual contributions to support the collective success Chelsea are targeting under Alonso.
After a first season in which he quickly became comfortable at Stamford Bridge, the forward is focused on building on his form and helping Chelsea compete for more titles.
