Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed new signing Ilyas Ansah will be sidelined for at least six weeks because of a spinal issue.

The striker joined the Tigers from Union Berlin, but a problem was detected during his medical before he was sent to see a specialist.

“Six weeks out, this is the minimum,” Jakirovic said after City’s goalless draw with Aston Villa.

“It’s interesting because if we didn’t send him for a medical and he signed without one, he would play.

“They found some problems with his spine, I think. The specialist’s recommendation is to stay away from the pitch for six weeks, so we will see.

“Now we will try to make sure that he has a good recovery and then he can join us.”

Jakirovic explained that fellow new signing Tim Iroegbunam missed out as a “precaution” and is set to return for Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash with Sunderland.

Matt Crooks is also expected to play a part, but Hidemasa Morita is expected to be out for around two more weeks.
