Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has revealed Yasin Ayari was ruled out of his side’s 4-3 defeat to Chelsea after picking up an injury, although he is hopeful the midfielder’s issue is not serious.

Ayari had been expected to be involved at Stamford Bridge but was absent from Hurzeler’s plans, forcing the Brighton boss into a late change.

Hurzeler said the club had been aware of the problem since the previous day but praised his players for adapting quickly to the altered plans.

“We knew it yesterday, regarding Yasin’s injury, and therefore it was another quick change we had to do,” Hurzeler said.

“But again, the players reacted to these kinds of changes in an impressive way. They immediately tried to find solutions.”

Providing a further update on Ayari, Hurzeler pointed to the fact the midfielder had been able to finish Brighton’s previous game against Tromso as a positive sign.

“He could finish the game against Tromso, so hopefully it’s not that bad,” he said.
