“He must go home” – NT coach confirms Man Utd injury fears

Manchester United were dealt a fresh injury blow on Sunday, as Patrick Dorgu was forced to leave the pitch prematurely.

The international break often bears bad news for clubs on the injury front. Therefore, the problems were always expected to pile up during an extended three-week window.

On Sunday, Bruno Fernandes didn’t take the field after Portugal manager Jorge Jesus had explained that the United skipper has been carrying a knock.

On the contrary, Dorgu was in action, but his evening ended on an early note.

Patrick Dorgu returns to Man Utd after picking up an injury

The 21-year-old was in the starting lineup for Denmark, who hosted Wales on the second matchday of the UEFA Nations League.

The Scandinavians went on to beat their British visitors thanks to a Ben Davies own goal and a strike from Gustav Isaksen.

But despite his nation’s victory, it wasn’t a joyous evening for Dorgu, who only lasted 30 minutes before leaving his place on the pitch for Mohamed Daramy. The former Lecce star appeared to have hurt his left hamstring as he limped his way off the pitch.

After the contest, Denmark head coach Brian Riemer confirmed the winger’s injury, revealing he won’t take part in the team’s next two Nations League games, as he’s set to return to Manchester in the coming hours.

“Patrick Dorgu was hurt today. It’s just really annoying, to put it bluntly,” admitted the 48-year-old in a post-match interview reported by PL Bold.

“He picked an injury so he needs to go home. Now we have to bring someone in; that’s for sure.”

What’s next for Dorgu & Man United?

Dorgu will be expected to undergo the necessary clinical tests after returning to Carrington in order to determine the extent of his injury.

Michael Carrick and the technical staff will be anxiously awaiting the results, hoping to avoid a serious injury.

The 21-year-old primarily played as a left winger under Carrick. Luckily for the head coach, he is well covered in this role, at least when Matheus Cunha and Marcus Rashford are available. The versatile Mason Mount is another player capable of playing wide, not to mention 18-year-old Tynan Thompson, who is eager for a first-team opportunity.

However, Dorgu recently played at left-back amid the lack of options. Although he struggled in the defeat to Manchester City, the technical staff at least had some depth behind Luke Shaw, who had a brief spell on the sidelines.

So while we’re only a few weeks into the new campaign, Man Utd’s failure to bolster the full-back department is proving to be a costly error with every passing day.
