Viktor Gyokeres arrived at Arsenal with a price tag, a reputation and a question waiting at the door: could he turn Sporting CP numbers into Premier League goals?

His Champions League numbers underline that value too. UEFA list him with five goals and two assists in 12 Champions League appearances, a strong return in the competition that could define Arsenal’s season.
The last push is where strikers are judged differently. In August, a heavy touch becomes a talking point. In May, one finish can become folklore.
That is why Gyokeres is so important now. Arsenal do not need him to win every argument about style. They need him to win moments. A near-post run. A loose ball. A penalty under pressure. A finish when legs are heavy and the stadium feels wired.
The best double in Arsenal’s existence is within reach. Premier League and Champions League glory would rewrite the club’s modern story, taking Arteta’s team from almost-men to immortals.
Gyokeres was criticised early, but he may yet become one of the defining faces of the season. For fans, that is the beauty of it. The striker who was doubted in autumn could be the one who drags Arsenal over the line in spring.
