Fresh look for a fresh season

Haaland appears to be enjoying a genuine love story with his girlfriend, Isabel Johansen, who has been spotted alongside him on several occasions, including during his celebrations with Manchester City. And it seems their strong relationship is even influencing their hairstyles.

Johansen posted a series of photos on Instagram showing off her sleek new shoulder-length haircut alongside the caption, "A lil refresh for fall." Her style change came just as Haaland left the football world stunned by ditching his iconic Viking-like mane in favour of a military-style buzz cut.

The couple, who have been together since Haaland's days at Borussia Dortmund, appear to be embracing a complete aesthetic reset ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign.

Reassuring reaction to Haaland's buzz cut

The City striker, who has become a global icon not only for his goalscoring exploits but also for his distinctive Viking-style appearance, shocked his followers on Sunday morning. Haaland documented the moment he decided to part ways with his long hair, accompanying the post with a simple message ahead of the 2026-27 campaign: "New season, new trim."

In a video shared on Haaland's official YouTube channel, Johansen's initial reaction to her partner's dramatic transformation was captured on camera. While initially taken aback by the sudden loss of his flowing ponytail, she quickly warmed to his clean-cut look, affectionately telling the Norwegian striker: "It looks good... You look cute." She admitted, however, that it might take some time to adjust after seeing him with long hair for so many years.

Ignoring Zlatan's warning

Haaland revealed that he chose to chop off his famous hair for a fresh start to the new season, having initially contemplated the makeover following his starring role for Norway at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He confessed to feeling slightly nervous after former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic advised him never to cut his hair because "the strength is in the hair," referencing the biblical tale of Samson. Nevertheless, Haaland pushed ahead with the crop, posting "Short hair don't care" on Instagram.

Slow start in new look

However, the new haircut did not immediately bring goalscoring luck to Haaland, as the Norwegian forward failed to find the back of the net against Bournemouth in his fresh look. Instead, he watched on as teammates Marc Guehi and Joško Gvardiol overturned a one-goal deficit to secure a dramatic late 2-1 victory in City's Premier League opener.

Haaland will now be eager to open his account for the season when City travel to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their second league fixture on August 28.
