Graham Potter makes awkward Man City joke after Benjamin Nygren misses Sweden clash
Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren missed Sweden’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia on Friday after being struck down by illness while on international duty.
Nygren had been enjoying a positive break after scoring in Sweden’s previous victory over Poland, continuing his emergence as a regular under national team boss Graham Potter.
However, Sweden’s preparations for the Bosnia clash were disrupted by an illness outbreak within the squad, with Nygren among several players affected.
The Celtic star had been kept isolated from his teammates alongside former Hoops defender Gustaf Lagerbielke and others in an attempt to prevent the illness spreading further.
His absence added to Potter’s selection problems and the former Chelsea and Brighton boss made an awkward joke about the number of players he had lost when discussing the situation afterwards.
Speaking about the players withdrawing from the squad, Potter joked to the Swedish media: “In terms of how many withdrawals, I think we’ve had a similar number to Man City’s charges, I think!”
