Glasner provides positive Nottingham Forest injury update ahead of Spurs showdown
Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare is expected to be available for selection for this weekend’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Sangare missed last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool after sustaining a minor calf injury in training having played 90 minutes in Forest’s opening day defeat to Leeds United.
Summer signing Xaver Schlager started in his place at Anfield, where partner James McAtee received the Premier League’s player of the match award following Glasner’s decision to deploy him deeper in midfield, with Sangare returning to provide the pair competition on Saturday.
The 53-year-old also revealed he was “very happy” with the club’s transfer business over the summer.
This follows the Midlands club making six acquisitions, including Colombian wing back Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace, and striker Liam Delap – for a club-record £45m fee – from Chelsea.
Forest did see bids for Palace goalkeeper and captain Dean Henderson and 19-year-old midfielders Harrison Armstrong (Everton) and Trey Nyoni (Liverpool) rejected late on in the window, but Glasner reiterated his appraisal for the club’s summer business.
“We wanted to reduce the number of players because we won’t be playing European football this season,” Glasner said. “While adding quality players with top character, and I think we achieved everything.”
Munoz, currently sporting a facial protection mask in training after undertaking nose surgery in pre season, will be available for selection against Tottenham, but Glasner emphasised his lack of “minutes in pre season” and the need for him to “settle” until he can “play with his full strengths” for the club.
Glasner confirmed that 23-year-old Italian defender Nicolo Savona returned to partial training this week after being out since January with a knee injury.
“Hopefully he can train fully with us in the international break and be back soon after that,” Glasner said, suggesting he saw Savona and club captain Ryan Yates as viable options at centre back, as the deadline day loan departures of Morato (West Ham) and Zach Abbott (Southampton) left Forest with four senior central defenders.
