Finally, sensational right-back joins Liverpool first-team

An exciting right-back has been promoted to Liverpool's senior squad from the academy.

Despite there being a void in the position the club's former sporting director Richard Hughes decided not to address the right-back situation over the course of the summer window.

Instead, it is expected that Liverpool are going to solve the situation internally.

The club have pinned high hopes on Conor Bradley who is one of the rare homegrown players left in the squad. Bradley has shown he can be a tremendous defender.

However, his career has been hampered by injuries.

His latest one is has been the most serious one to date. It will likely take him over a year to recover. Andoni Iraola confirmed in his press conference he is still a long way from making a return to action.

Liverpool outline plans for the right-back position

While no right-back was recruited Richard Hughes did bring in a hybrid profile.

Ronald Araujo is capable of playing as a right-back, which was a major factor in recruiting him on loan from Barcelona.

The Uruguayan has not featured there since Iraola's first choice is Jeremie Frimpong.

We've also seen Iraola use Dominik Szoboszlai in the position in the club's last match against Nottingham Forest.

The Hungarian will have preferred to play in midfield but he could arguably be the Reds' strongest option in the right-back role.

There's also the return of Joe Gomez, which could fix the headache for Iraola since the England international is capable of playing there as well.

But Iraola could count on an exciting right-back prospect from the academy as well.

Liverpool promote Isaac Mabaya

Last season, the Reds decided to promote Calvin Ramsay and registered him for their Premier League squad in January when it became clear they had a right-back shortage.

Arne Slot's biggest mistake was probably not to utilise the Scotsman more in order to use Szoboszlai in his position.

This time around Iraola has recognised the weakness at the start of the year and he has acted accordingly promoting Mabaya from the Reds' U21 side.

The youngster has been included in Liverpool's squad for the Premier League and given the shortage of options could easily feature in a game.

Mabaya was once a sensational talent who caught the eye in pre-season while Jurgen Klopp was still at the club. Injuries have had an impact on his career.

But the 21-year-old is now on a mission to rediscover his form and he's looked excellent in outings for the U21s, recently registering an assist against Leeds United in the Premier League 2.

This could be his redemption arc.
