Fabrizio Romano tells Chelsea fans what to expect next in Alex Scott saga
Chelsea are leading the race to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott with the latest reports suggesting the Blues are readying a January bid.
Scott has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent seasons with his form on the south coast earning him a recent call-up to the England squad.
The 23-year-old was integral to the Cherries' European qualification last season and looks to have started this season strongly too.
Consequently, it's unsurprising to hear that Chelsea, having failed in a £60 million offer in the summer, are still tracking the talented midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano expecting Chelsea to bid for Alex Scott
Even though there have been some suggestions that the Blues won't try again for Scott until the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano, the club could make an offer in the New Year.
“Chelsea have Alex Scott in mind. Chelsea consider Alex Scott as a target. Chelsea believe Alex Scott is the ideal player in midfield to add to their squad. He’s [a] quality player, he’s English, homegrown. So, [he’s] considered as the ideal player in midfield. So, Chelsea are on it for Alex Scott and in contact with people close to the player. Chelsea are working on it,'' he said on his YouTube channel.
“Liverpool knows the player so well. Liverpool have been in connection with people close to the player over the summer but never putting a bid on the table. So let’s see what’s going to happen also with Liverpool. And then Arsenal already invested on Bruno Guimaraes, so they have an interest in Alex Scott, of course, as a top midfielder, but at the moment still nothing advanced.”
“Chelsea [are] closely monitoring the situation, so it’s going to bean interesting one to follow. If you ask me today. Chelsea are really thinking of Alex Scott still because, again, the whole summer at Chelsea was about Alex Scott, then was not possible to proceed, but [he is] the player that Chelsea strongly considered. I would not be surprised if they’re back for him also with official bids [next year].”
Scott's contract expires in 2028 and the midfielder has yet to give Bournemouth any hope he will sign an extension.
Stamford Bridge audition up next for Scott
Following a three week international break, Chelsea are preparing to return to Premier League action.
The Blues will host Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon in a match that will see both sides attempt to return to winning ways.
Scott, who comes into this weekend's game off the back of a great England performance, has the chance to impress Xabi Alonso as he looks to continue his development and potentially replace Enzo Fernandez in the heart of the Spaniard's Chelsea midfield.
