Dorgu Scare Leaves Carrick Facing Manchester United Left-Back Dilemma
Patrick Dorgu was withdrawn after just 29 minutes of Denmark’s Nations League fixture with a suspected hamstring injury, creating an immediate availability concern for Manchester United.
The 21-year-old went down holding the back of his thigh with no opposing player near him, before limping off alongside a national team staff member. He was replaced by Mohammed Daramy.
What happened in Denmark’s game
Dorgu started the Group D clash and looked lively before the issue struck. There was no immediate confirmation of the severity of the injury, but the manner in which he went down, unchallenged and clutching the back of his leg, will not have gone unnoticed at Carrington.
The Peoples Person reports that the setback comes after a promising international window for the young Dane, who created the most chances in the game, three, during Denmark’s earlier fixture against Norway.
Why this matters for Michael Carrick
Noussair Mazraoui remains a versatile option, but Dorgu has looked more comfortable operating out wide on the left than his teammate. Any lengthy spell out for the Dane would force Carrick into further improvisation at the back, and it comes at a time when Shaw’s own long-term situation remains far from settled.
United’s wider injury picture
Dorgu’s issue is not the only fitness concern United will be monitoring from the international break. Bruno Fernandes started for Portugal against Wales and lasted until stoppage time, but head coach Jorge Jesus described the midfielder’s hip problem as a worrying one, revealing Fernandes had been playing through the pain for around three matches. Fernandes will not face Norway as a result.
Benjamin Sesko has also withdrawn from the Slovenia squad because of a recurring shin injury. Neither situation is connected to Dorgu’s hamstring scare, but taken together they add up to a challenging return to club duty for Carrick, whose side have already had to navigate other absences during this international window.
