‘Doesn’t look in a good way’: MEN journo shares early injury update from Everton vs Man Utd

Harry Maguire has suffered a blow to the nose after a collision with Everton’s Thierno Barry in the opening minutes of today’s clash.

Manchester United are looking to make it back-to-back Premier League wins in this afternoon’s outing at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

What happened to Maguire vs the Toffees?

There was an early scare for Maguire, who spent several minutes receiving treatment for a nose injury.

Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall said on X/Twitter: “[Maguire] doesn’t look in a good way, seemed to take a heavy fall after an aerial challenge with Barry. [Leny] Yoro out to warm-up.”

Although he had to leave the field momentarily, Michael Carrick will be relieved at the fact that the centre-half has been cleared to continue.

With Matthijs de Ligt still unavailable, Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are Carrick’s most experienced central defenders in the squad.

20-year-old Yoro and Ayden Heaven, 19, do boast top-flight experience, but both are still incredibly young in comparison to their counterparts.

Carrick making use of what he’s got

The game is United’s first since the transfer window closed, and the majority of the Old Trafford faithful were dissatisfied with how the side’s summer business panned out.

INEOS’ only first-team additions were Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba and Youri Tielemans, while veteran free agent Karl Darlow also joined to bolster the goalkeeping department.

It’s left Carrick’s defence particularly weak, especially at left-back, where Luke Shaw is the only senior option in the position.
