Contract talks scheduled: Man Utd could complete remarkable U-turn on one Red who’s looking nailed-on to leave
Manchester United are reportedly planning to hold talks with Luke Shaw regarding a potential new deal.
According to Football Insider, the club are looking to address his situation in the coming months, with the defender currently poised to leave as a free agent in June 2027.

Indeed, Shaw’s terms contain no one-year option, meaning he will be released at the end of the season unless a new agreement is reached.
Reports up to now have suggested United were satisfied with that being the case, as they viewed next summer as the right time to part ways with their longest-serving player.
However, it’s now said that Red Devils chiefs ‘still see a role’ for the 31-year-old beyond the current campaign.
After they opted against signing any full-backs in the summer window, it’s expected that that area of the squad will take priority next time around. Keeping an experienced option like Shaw would perhaps make INEOS’ job easier, as he can stick around to provide depth at left-back.

On the other hand, fans may find it counter-productive to keep hold of United’s most injury-prone player of the last decade.
It’s no secret that Shaw has suffered from unrelenting fitness problems since he arrived at Old Trafford in 2014.
To put it into context, he has racked up 329 appearances for the club across all competitions in the 12-and-a-half years he’s represented United. Bruno Fernandes, who joined in January 2020, has made 334 appearances.
Presumably, United will offer the defender a contract similar to Harry Maguire’s; he penned a one-year deal in spring, which can be extended to 2028 if the club decide they want to keep hold of him for another season.
Shaw has already missed three games in 2026/2027, but returned for the draw with Fulham prior to the international break.
