Chris Hughton has a reassuring Roberto De Zerbi prediction for Tottenham fans

At this point, Tottenham Hotspur supporters are starting to get worried about the club, as they have not won a single game to start the 2026/27 Premier League season and now sit in dead last place in the league heading into the September international break.

While Roberto De Zerbi has visibly improved Spurs in the sense that they are now outpossessing and outshooting their opponents, that has not mattered at all in terms of actual results. Spurs are already out of the League Cup and are the worst team in the Premier League, sitting in an even worse spot than they were the previous campaign when he pulled them out of relegation.

But not everyone is as sour on De Zerbi as the media. Former Tottenham star left back Chris Hughton had some optimistic words for De Zerbi and the club, stating that despite all that is happening, he still believes that this club will be a winner in the 2026/27 season under the new manager.

It's still early for Tottenham this season

Hughton said, via Chris Cowlin, "We have to accept and remember that we are five games into a season. But we also have to accept that the game is now with so many opinions. If there is criticism, then it's something that you have to accept as a coach and, of course, want to turn that around and turn the results from maybe not such good results into good results. I have absolute confidence that he will. I'm very, very confident that there will be a turnaround. Of course, everybody wants it sooner rather than later, and sometimes that's not the case. But ultimately, I think we will be seeing a winning football team here."

Chris Hughton is spot on when he states that we are only five games into the season. Because there is no football right now and a natural lull with the international break, there is going to be more time for those negative opinions to bounce around regarding the job Roberto De Zerbi is doing, but that's an arbitrary number.

The point is that there are signs of progress, even as Spurs should have been expected to do better as a big club, especially after spending 380 millino pounds on new players. Hughton's final prediction of winning football is all Spurs supporters can hope for, and it will be up to De Zerbi to make those tweaks to turn his ideas into wins.
