Chema's sale to Brighton has disastrous consequences for Real Madrid
Over the last few years, when it comes to selling their most promising academy youngsters, Real Madrid have always been smart with how they compose the deal. The club always includes things like buy-back clauses and sell-on clauses giving them priority over the player should another club show interest in signing them, Real could jump and and snatch them back. All of those clauses were included in the deal for midfielder Chema Andres when he moved to Stuttgart last summer, however Los Blancos chose not to activate either clause, and it has led to a disaster this summer.
Brighton have announced the signing of Chema from Stuttgart on a five-year contract, a deal that has resulted in Real Madrid losing all their rights to the player. With Real Madrid choosing not to activate their clauses, Real Madrid has now lost all their percentage rights over the player, the right of first refusal, their buy-back clause and their sell-on clause for any future sale.

Real Madrid letting Chema slip through their fingers and move to Brighton could prove disastrous in the long run, not just because of the potential money they would be missing out on but also because of the impact it could have on the squad. Real Madrid's biggest issue they needed to solve this summer was their Toni Kroos replacement in midfield, and Chema is exactly that kind of player but they have missed out on the chance to bring him back.
Los Blancos were on the witch hunt for the perfect midfielder this summer and the answer was staring them right in the face and they chose to ignore it. Chema had a strong season at Stuttgart in 25/26 getting his first regular first team minutes, and the 21-year-old showed all the signs of a star in the making. He bring all the attributes to the table that Real Madir dwere looking for in their midfield signing this summer, with his composure on the ball, passing range, ability to control the tempo however he likes, and his workrate exactly what the team is missing right now.
However Chema is now off to Brighton a club perfect for players to develop and a place where he will surely be the star of the midfield and take his game to the next level, which is bad for Real Madrid should they want to bring him back. Losing their back-back clause means they're now at Brighton's mercy and will have to negotiate a new fee for the player and as we all know, Brighton loves to get a fortune for their players.
Real Madrid had a strong transfer window overall with all the new arrivals and the departures, however it's hard to not overlook their complacency with Chema and the impact it could have on Real Madrid in the future should they want to bring him back home to the Bernabeu.
