Estêvão and Morgan Rogers both scored on international duty, giving Chelsea two encouraging attacking updates before the Blues return to club football.

Estêvão and Rogers make their mark for Brazil and England

Estêvão started Brazil’s match against India and scored the opener before setting up the second goal in the first half. Brazil went on to score four, and the Chelsea youngster was substituted after about an hour.

Morgan Rogers, meanwhile, came off the bench as England thrashed Croatia 7-0 away in Rijeka. He scored the seventh in the 87th minute, putting the finishing touch on a remarkable result. We Ain’t Got No History reported both players’ contributions and noted that England coach Thomas Tuchel described the display as a complete performance.

The two appearances offered different snapshots. Estêvão was a starter and directly involved in two goals, while Rogers made his impact late from the bench. Across Brazil’s two matches during the break, Estêvão played nearly three hours; Brazil’s tour has now concluded. England still had one fixture remaining, against the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

Estêvão’s Brazil involvement adds another useful data point as Chelsea consider his place in the attack. His standing at Chelsea has been a talking point, and this was a more substantial contribution than a brief cameo: a start, a goal and an assist. It does not settle what his role should be at club level, but it gives us plenty to welcome.

Rogers also heads back with momentum, although a late international goal is not a guarantee of a Chelsea start. His arrival has naturally fed into the competition among Chelsea’s attackers, and every convincing contribution strengthens his case to be considered. Recent Chelsea performances from Rogers provide another part of that picture.

England’s other scorers in Rijeka were Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka. Kane and Saka each scored twice, while Rogers’s late finish completed the seven-goal haul.

In other news…

Brazil’s international tour is over, while England had Tuesday’s meeting with the Czech Republic still to play. After that, both players’ attention turns back to Chelsea.

These goals give Xabi Alonso fresh form to consider, not a selection decision already made. International sharpness can strengthen the attacking battle, but places still have to be earned in training and on the pitch.
