Chelsea told Camara could become available - provided one transfer happens
Chelsea have learned Monaco are interested in signing a midfielder which could unlock the future of Lamine Camara, according to reports in Italy.
The Blues came close to signing Senegal international Camara as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez on transfer deadline day in September.
BBC Sport claims the 22-year-old passed a medical ahead of his proposed move to Stamford Bridge, but Monaco aborted the transfer late on.
The Ligue 1 side decided to retain Camara and sell Folarin Balogun to Everton instead - only for that deal to fall through at the eleventh hour.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are willing to revive their interest in signing Camara, having been left high and dry by Monaco.
However, the west London club have discovered Monaco are weighing up a move for an alternative midfielder in the January transfer window.
Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport understands Monaco are keen to land out-of-favour Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.
The Netherlands international has struggled to live up to his €58.4million (£50m) price tag since joining the Bianconeri from Atalanta in August 2024.
Koopmeiners - the sixth most expensive signing in Juventus’ history - has registered just eight goals and five assists in 95 games for the Old Lady.
Gazzetta claims Everton, Newcastle United and Galatasaray are also interested in offering Koopmeiners an escape route in January.
Chelsea linked with several midfielders ahead of January
Chelsea continue to be linked with a host of midfielders after missing out on signing a successor to Fernandez, who joined Manchester City earlier this month.
Xabi Alonso’s side remain interested in acquiring Alex Scott despite having a bid rejected by Bournemouth in the summer, according to BBC Sport.
Chelsea are also believed to be considering the merits of Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi, Everton’s James Garner and Roma’s Manu Kone.
The six-time league champions return to action when they entertain Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday, 10 October.
Chelsea are winless in three league games having lost to Arsenal and Brentford either side of a draw with new boys Hull City.
