Chelsea receive good news as Bundesliga striker 'open to offers'
Despite being Europe's biggest spenders this summer, Chelsea remain interested in finding the next gem.
The Blues spent well over £400 million earlier this year, including capturing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a whopping £117 million.
But despite his huge spend in the summer, Xabi Alonso is still keen to add some more talent to his squad's ranks with the latest name linked with a move to Stamford Bridge being one of the Bundesliga's hottest prospects.
Chelsea interested in Freiburg's Igor Matanovic
According to a recent report from CaughtOffside, the Blues are interested in Freiburg forward Igor Matanovic.
The 23-year-old has been extensively scouted by several clubs, including Chelsea and Premier League rivals Manchester United.
The Blues view the 23-year-old as a future star and a player capable of competing in England's physically demanding top-flight.
Interestingly, despite only joining Freiburg from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, Matanovic is believed to be keen to test himself in a bigger and better league.
CaughtOffside claim the striker, who was born in Hamburg but represents Croatia, is 'open to offers' to leave the Europa-Park Stadium and could be the next prospect to leave the Bundesliga.
As for Alonso, the 44-year-old isn't short on strikers. In addition to youngster Emmanuel Emegha, the new Chelsea manager has two other in form forwards at his disposal; Joao Pedro and sumemr signing Danny Welbeck.
Of course with Welbeck already well into the twilight of his career, the Englishman won't be expected to continue at Stamford Bridge beyond his current deal which expires in 2028.
Matanovic is certainly one for the future and a player who could develop a lot more before then.
How much Matanovic could cost
Unsurprisingly, any club looking to sign the 6' 5" hitman, who scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, will be expected to pay a significant fee.
The striker's rise in Germany's top-flight has seen his valuation sky rocket since his made the switch to Freiburg 12 months ago.
Now valued at £50 million, Chelsea would need to invest another big sum into a player who has yet to really prove himself on the biggest stage.
The early signs are positive though. The 23-year-old, who came through St. Pauli's youth academy, has started the new season with a bang, scoring six goals in his first seven appearances.
Since making his professional debut in 2021, Matanovic has directly contributed to 57 goals in 171 games in all competitions.
He has been capped 13 times for Croatia and could yet be involved when Slavan Bilic'ss men take on England in the Nations League on Saturday.
