Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah is expected to be called up to England squad this week.

The Blues defender didn’t make Thomas Tuchel’s initial selection last week with John Stones, Jarell Quansah, Ezri Konsa, Dan Burn and Marc Guehi all making the cut.

Tuchel previously admitted that Chalobah was unfortunate to not make the September squad, though the England boss overlooked the 26-year-old entirely last month.

However, Chalobah is expected to be called up for upcoming meetings with Serbia and Albania as cover for Guehi.

The Crystal Palace captain missed the 0-0 draw with Brighton on Sunday owing to a foot injury sustained in the Eagles’ 3-1 win over AZ Alkmaar last week.

'He can't even walk'

Palace boss Oliver Glasner revealed Guehi ‘couldn’t even walk’ suffering the problem in the Conference League victory, telling Sky Sports after the game: “Overnight he couldn't sleep, it was so painful and the next day we assessed him and it was a heavy bone bruise.

“He was walking on crutches the last two days and couldn't even step on his foot. Fortunately, nothing is broken, but at the moment he can't even walk.

“It looks like he will miss England's games, but after, maybe in 10-14 days hopefully he can return to training and be available again.”

Chalobah will hope to make just his second England appearance having made his debut in a 3-1 friendly defeat to Senegal in June.

The Three Lions have already booked their 2026 World Cup spot, so Tuchel can use upcoming qualifiers as a chance for fringe players to make their mark.

Among those is Alex Scott, who received his first England call up having impressed for Bournemouth in the opening weeks of the season.

Newcastle duo also drop out

Along with Guehi, Newcastle pair Nick Pope and Anthony Gordon will also miss out for England this month.

Pope, who’d received his first call up in a year, suffered a concussion in the 3-1 loss at Brentford on Sunday, with Manchester City shotstopper James Trafford expected to return to the national team having been overlooked last week.

Gordon, meanwhile, sat out the defeat in the capital due to a hip problem and won’t feature for the Three Lions at Wembley on Thursday, nor at the Arena Kombetare in Tirana on Sunday.
