By order of De Zerbi: Tottenham request Marmoush from Manchester City
The future of the Egyptian star with City awaits a resolution
The race for Egyptian international Omar Marmoush has flared up unexpectedly. Tottenham Hotspur have entered the running strongly to sign the Manchester City striker during the current summer transfer window, in a move that could reshape the Premier League's attacking landscape.
Under Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham want to completely restructure the London side. It's an ambitious plan aimed at bringing Spurs back into the fierce race for the Premier League title.
David Ornstein, the trusted English journalist at The Athletic, confirmed that De Zerbi formally wants to sign the Manchester City duo in one go: Omar Marmoush and Brazilian Savinho.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, revealed that Tottenham's board are planning to change their entire attacking trio for the new season. They want to build around a fearsome front three of Marmoush, Savinho and Liverpool's Dutch star Cody Gakpo.
English journalist Gary Ward explained that Manchester City will not allow Marmoush and Savinho to leave until they have sealed strong replacements. The Sky Blues are awaiting the completion of deals for Enzo Fernandez and young Moroccan Ayoub Bouaddi, the Lille player.
Behind all this lies the great difficulty Marmoush faced in securing a starting spot at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola last season. That situation looks set to continue given the constant reliance on Erling Haaland as the main striker, as was clearly evident in the Community Shield against Arsenal.
