Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has suggested the "dream" of winger Yankuba Minteh could come true in future after a transfer to Liverpool failed to come to fruition this summer.

Minteh was the subject of a couple of bids from the Reds this summer. They lodged £50 and £60million bids, but Brighton turned down both, as it was suggested they wanted more in the region of £70million.

While it was said Liverpool were considering going back in after their second bid for Minteh, they never did, and he remained at Brighton.

The Reds signed Bradley Barcola as their statement winger signing in the final days of the summer window.

Though Minteh failed to make a big move this summer, Seagulls boss Hurzeler has suggested he could gain one before long.

He said: "He wears the Brighton colours, the Brighton badge. He's was part for two years now of this squad, achieved great things together with the boys. It's about him now to commit because we always say we want to be successful as a club and then you can shine as individuals.

"If we achieve things together then the attention will come to the individual players. If the whole team is successful then he will get a lot of attention again and maybe he can fulfil his dream in the next transfer window.

"But now it's up to us to give him the chance to do good rehab, be part of this group - but up to him to perform on the highest level."

Liverpool transfer window underwhelming for fans

Liverpool fans were expecting Mohamed Salah to be replaced in the summer, after nine years of superstardom on the right wing. But both wingers the Reds have signed this summer - Barcola and Victor Munoz - prefer to play on the left.

Spaniard Munoz did start on the right against Nottingham Forest, after Rio Ngumoha had played there in the season opener against Newcastle.

Minteh was among a number of right-wingers, including Ibrahim Mbaye and Ismaila Sarr, who Liverpool made moves for but decided against signing.

Insider Alex Crook said of Liverpool's lack of signing on the right wing: “I think Liverpool fans on deadline day might be a bit disappointed with the lack of numbers they’ve recruited this summer. They haven’t replaced Mohamed Salah on that right-hand side.”
