Bournemouth are prepared to rival Crystal Palace in the race to sign Brennan Johnson from Tottenham, reports Sky Sports.

Johnson was vital as Spurs ended their lengthy wait for silverware, scoring the only goal of the game in their 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final back in May.

However, the Wales international has started just six league games for Thomas Frank’s side this season, with the north London side prepared to entertain offers for the 24-year-old.

Palace and Bournemouth monitoring Johnson

Palace are the frontrunners for the Welshman as they look to reinforce their frontline for the second half of the season.

The Eagles, who lost Ismaila Sarr to Africa Cup of Nations duty with Senegal earlier this month, are hoping to lure Johnson to Selhurst Park, though they now face competition from Bournemouth for the winger.

The Cherries are expected to sell Antoine Semenyo next month, with Manchester City set to trigger the £65m release clause in the Ghana star’s contract.

And the south coast side view Johnson as a potential replacement for the 25-year-old, who has nine goals and three assists to his name.

'Brennan is very important for us'

It remains to be seen whether Spurs would be prepared to cash in on Johnson or loan the former Nottingham Forest man in the New Year.

When asked about Johnson’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs boss Frank said: “I think Brennan is very important for us. Maybe he didn't get many minutes, but unfortunately I can only play 11 players.

“He's still started quite a few games. I think Brennan is an important player for us.”

Spurs returned to winning ways last time out, incidentally at Palace, as Archie Gray’s first half header secured a 1-0 win in south London last weekend.

Tottenham are next in action on New Year’s Day as they take on Frank’s former employers, Brentford, at the Gtech Community Stadium.
