Bombshell Liverpool transfer update as Fabrizio Romano relays major Friday decision
Crystal Palace will hold on to Adam Wharton for another season.
In comments relayed on X (formerly Twitter) by Fabrizio Romano, Eagles boss Pierre Sage suggested that the England international would not be allowed to leave the club this summer.
This comes after enquiries from Manchester City and reported interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Adam Wharton will not be sold this summer
While we think that Wharton would bring much to Liverpool in terms of his progressive qualities, we have raised concerns over what he would take away from the double pivot in terms of raw athleticism.
Either way, it seems like the option has been taken off the table for Liverpool this summer.
And with the Reds reportedly not keen on signing a specialist six, the club is facing dangerous levels of low depth following the departure of Curtis Jones.
We can still call upon the services of Trey Nyoni and Alexis Mac Allister – two extremely talented players in their own rights – but we would have concerns over whether the pair can match Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai in terms of covering ground.
Something for Liverpool to consider in what little is left of the summer transfer window. And perhaps Andoni Iraola’s latest comments indicate that the Reds will indeed address this in the coming days.
Are Liverpool looking at Tyler Adams?
Reporting from Dylan McBennett on X brought up Tyler Adams’ name in connection with Liverpool this summer.
Intriguingly, the Bournemouth star could arrive at L4 at a price point that’s not a million miles away from the £30m package deal Liverpool have agreed with Inter Milan for Curtis Jones.
Judging by this analysis from Chris Wise following a 3-3 draw between Palace and the Cherries, the USA international could be a welcome addition to the squad.
“Tyler Adams had another very impressive game. He’s going under the radar slightly at the moment, as much as a Premier League player can. There aren’t too many defensive midfielders that are as crucial to their team right now as the USA international is to Bournemouth,” the BBC Radio 5 Live commentator said (via BBC Sport).
“I think most would agree that the Cherries’ hastily assembled new-look backline have settled well. But the impact Adams has had in allowing that to happen needs to be noted. He screens the scene superbly, and offers a bite and intensity to the base of Bournemouth’s midfield. There were a couple of times against Crystal Palace where the Bournemouth defence had been stretched, and it was Adams who was there to bail them out.”
