BBC: Chelsea “open to” major transfer in January on these conditions

Chelsea are open to signing a new midfielder in January claims Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC in Q and A today.

The international break crawls on, and Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC has done a Q and A to try and keep people interested during these barren times.

First on his agenda was midfielders, and whether we could see Chelsea make an addition in the winter window.

Chelsea will consider January midfielder move

“I can tell you with some degree of certainty that Chelsea are open to signing a midfielder in January,” Kinsella wrote.

“That position could change depending on whether they gain some stability in midfield when Moises Caicedo returns, or whether players such as Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli and Reggie Watson, both 16, are deemed ready by January to make an impact on the fringes of the first-team squad.”

Our sense is that, if Caicedo comes back and stays fit, the club will hold off and wait for a big move for a Premier League player in the summer rather than panic-buying in January. With Jordan Henderson back and Reece James hopefully recovering too, we should have the depth to make it through the season.
