Arteta backs Arsenal’s attack to silence doubters: “We’ll put everybody in their place” this season
Mikel Arteta has said he is confident Arsenal's frontline will prove people wrong this season.
Arsenal failed to land a marquee attacker during the summer transfer window, despite reported interest in Vinicius Junior, Morgan Rogers, and Julian Alvarez.
The failure to land a forward has led some to question whether the Premier League champions have the firepower to get over the line in the Champions League.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said this week that Arsenal needed a 'gamechanger' in the final third.
"They have got really good strikers. I like Kai Havertz and I think Mikel Arteta likes him, as well," Carragher said.
"Viktor Gyokeres has been what most people felt he would be when he came -- not quite elite but he can still score goals in certain games. They can still use him to do that job this season.
"They needed someone to be a gamechanger. They tried to get Vinícius Júnior, they tried to get Álvarez -- that's the calibre of players.
"It's very hard to improve Arsenal now because they are such a good team, such a strong squad. So you're talking about a world class player as the only one that can improve them. They've tried to get them and haven't been able to get these deals over the line.
"There's no point bringing somebody of the level that they've already got. They've got five or six players in attack which I would call 'seven or eight out of 10 players.' They wanted a 'nine or 10 out of 10 player' but couldn't get it across the line."
“I love my players… let’s trust them”: Arteta says Arsenal forwards will “put everybody in their place”
Arteta has dismissed the suggestion that his attack lacks world-class talent. Asked directly if he has elite forward talent, Arteta said he was confident his players would 'put everybody in their place' by the season's end.
"I love my players, that's what I can say. In the bracket, how you want to put them, I don't know. I think at the end of the season we'll put everybody in their place and let's trust them. Let's make sure that we are right behind them and we do everything we can to help the incredible talent that they have."
