Arsenal vs Coventry City: Preview, Prediction & Lineups
Arsenal welcome newly promoted Coventry City to the Emirates Stadium for the opening game of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
The Gunners defeated Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield to win their first silverware of the term last time out. Riccardo Calafiori put his side in front after just 24 seconds before Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard got themselves on the scoresheet to complete a dominant display.
Coventry enjoyed a successful pre-season ahead of their return to England's top flight after 25 years away and they rounded off their preparations with a 2-0 victory over Monaco last week. Ellis Simms and Loum Tchaouna netted to help the Sky Blues to the win.
Mikel Arteta's side begin the new campaign as defending champions and will be looking to start their year in the best way possible as they look to retain the league title for the first time since 1935. However, new boys Coventry will be eager to cause an upset and send a message upon their top flight comeback.

Arsenal team news
As always, Arteta has some big decisions to make ahead of his side's Premier League opener, and at the centre of the dilemma are Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice. The Spaniard will be tempted to rest the pair, but the former is likely to be named as a starter while the latter will be involved off the bench, paving the way for Bruno Guimarães to make his first league start for his new side.
The winger is likely to be the only change from the starting lineup that thrashed Man City in the Community Shield with the likes of Kai Havertz, Martin Ødegaard, Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White keeping their spots in the XI.
William Saliba and Jurrien Timber will be absent as they continue their respective recoveries from injury while expected new signing Ezri Konsa could be watching his team from the stands.
Predicted Arsenal lineup vs Coventry City: Raya; White, Mosquera, Gabriel, Calafiori; Ødegaard, Guimarães, Lewis-Skelly; Saka, Havertz, Tzolis
Coventry City team news
Frank Lampard will be looking to send a statement as his side make their long-awaited Premier League return, but he has some injuries to contend with. Haji Wright and Luke Woolfenden will be absent while Jack Rudoni and Frank Onyeka face late fitness tests.
The Sky Blues' starting lineup is expected to be full of debutants with Carl Rushworth, Caleb Yirenkyi, Loum Tchaouna and Aurele Amenda likely to be among those making their first competitive appearances.
Taiwo Awoniyi, who joined from Nottingham Forest earlier this week, will likely be named on the bench with Ellis Simms the starter up front for Coventry.
Predicted Coventry City lineup vs Arsenal: Rushworth; Van Ewijk, Thomas, Amenda, Markelo; Onyeka, Grimes, Yirenkyi; Tchaouna, Simms, Thomas-Asante
Arsenal vs Coventry City score prediction
As most would expect, Arsenal are the very strong favourites going into this opening night clash and as the defending champions, it should be straightforward for them to get the result over the line against Coventry.
However, the Sky Blues will be eager to send a message to those who have tipped them to head straight back down to the Championship and they won't be walked all over at the Emirates.
The Gunners should be able to deal with that fight though and the likes of Saka and Ødegaard will be too much for Lampard's side to fend off, and that will allow the hosts to stroll to a comfortable victory, just as they did against City.
Prediction: Arsenal 3-0 Coventry City
