Rayan Cherki has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most technically gifted attacking players since joining Manchester City, and Arsenal could revive their interest if the club are forced into player sales.

The Frenchman has shown that his creativity, close control and vision can be effective in English football despite questions over his physicality. Arsenal and Liverpool were reportedly interested before he joined City from Lyon in 2025, but the Citizens won the race for his signature.

Arsenal Monitor Cherki

TEAMtalk reports that Arsenal would consider a move for Cherki if City receive a severe sanction, such as relegation, following their financial case. The Gunners have long admired his technical ability and capacity to create chances between the lines.

City would ordinarily have little reason to sell Cherki, who is contracted until 2030. However, a forced squad rebuild could make him one of the most attractive players on the market, although there is currently no indication that he is seeking an exit or that Arsenal have opened negotiations.

Cherki would give Arsenal another inventive option in attacking areas. His ability to operate centrally or from the right could add creativity and unpredictability to Mikel Arteta’s forward line.

Liverpool Also Interested

Liverpool are also expected to compete for Cherki if he becomes available. The Reds reportedly explored a deal before his move to City and remain admirers of the Frenchman’s talent.

Any race would extend beyond Arsenal and Liverpool, with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also linked with potential interest. That level of competition means a transfer would be difficult, even if City were relegated or otherwise required to sell players

For now, the situation remains conditional. Cherki’s future will depend on the outcome of City’s case and whether any sanction creates a realistic path for rivals to make an approach.
