The start of Liverpool's 2026-27 Premier League season is now less than a week away.

Their opening game is set to come against Newcastle who might be the only other team who have made as many changes to their ranks as the Reds.

Both clubs have seen some of their best players leave this summer with nobody really knowing how the game is going to pan out.

However, as we get closer to transfer deadline day, decisions are going to need to be made before it's too late.

Because, if the Reds take too long to make their choices over certain players, they'll end up with way too many players than they have room for which would obviously be a problem in itself.

So, the sooner Iraola figures things out at Liverpool, the better.

Liverpool still haven't figured out what to do with Stefan Bajcetic

Last season, Liverpool's midfield was one of their biggest problem areas.

Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch massively underperformed which led to the Reds losing almost every single midfield battle that they were faced with.

This lack of form led fans to believe that changes were coming and that a potentially new-look midfield was going to make it's way to Anfield.

Adam Wharton and Lamine Camara were both mooted as potential options but, those deals don't seem to be getting anywhere at the moment.

That leads us to where we are now. Curtis Jones has one foot out of the exit door and Trey Nyoni could be about to play a massive role in Iraola's plans this term.

However, for Stefan Bajcetic, the future isn't so clear.

"Stefan Bajcetic is attracting interest in Spain, but Liverpool haven’t decided on their plans for him," The Athletic shared.

Stefan Bajcetic could help Liverpool out this season

As mentioned, last season, Gravenberch was miles off the pace.

Indeed, it probably didn't help matters much that the Dutchman was used as a defensive midfielder when that isn't his natural position.

His performances in that role during the 2024-25 campaign were mesmerising but, things just did not click at all last season.

This made fans realise that a new defensive midfielder was needed but, unfortunately for them, that doesn't feel all that likely to happen anymore.

That's where Bajcetic comes in. Before the Spaniard ended up injured for the best part of two seasons he was Jurgen Klopp's star boy and was even compared to Fabinho.

However, thanks to injuries and a lack of form, he never fully met his potential but, with Iraola now at the helm, he could potentially get back to his best.

And, if he manages to do this, that could almost certainly solve Liverpool's number six issues for the foreseeable future.

Or, for the 2026-27 season, at the very least.
