It’s Wednesday, which means the Key Match Incidents Panel have reviewed the gameweek four action, and their findings have been published.

While we have to wait a little longer for the gameweek five decisions to be announced, we can now update the VAR table to determine whether or not there should be any changes to how the table should look.

As with last week, we have factored in the gameweek five results, but the updated table once the KMI Panel has come to an agreement on the decisions that may or may not have impacted a final result.

Headline findings

The key finding was that Erling Haaland’s goal against Manchester United should not have counted. After a lengthy VAR check in the Manchester Derby, the Manchester City star’s second-half strike was allowed to stand, this despite Enzo Fernandez’s involvement in the goal.

However, Haaland’s effort should have been disallowed. As such, the final result has been adjusted from a 1-0 win to City to a 0-0 draw. Additionally, Sunderland should not have had a penalty in their eventual 2-0 loss to Arsenal, though as Enzo Le Fee’s spotkick was saved, this would not have affected the final result as the Gunners would have won anyway.

What it does mean, though, is that it would have been tighter at the top following the gameweek five results.

City would still sit top of the Premier League table, but with a one-point lead rather than a three-point buffer. The result would also have ended the Cityzens’ 100% start to the Premier League season.

Incorrect Decision Ledger

Arsenal have the largest disadvantage in terms of decisions against them having had three not go their way in the opening four gameweeks of the season.

Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool and Manchester United have all had one decision go against them in the Premier League so far.

At the other end of the table, Aston Villa, who claimed their first league win of the season at Tottenham Hotspur’s expense last time out, have had three decisions go in their favour, the most in England’s top tier this term.

Leeds United, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland have all had one decision go their way.
